Freedom, glorious freedom!
This morning, I stepped outside with my 14-month-old daughter to enjoy some fresh air (which, thanks to high humidity even at 10 a.m., felt like stepping into an oven, but whatever), and took just a moment to take in the scene in front of me. The sun was shining, birds were chirping, flowers were blooming – and my neighbor was standing on her porch, yelling inside to her 4-year-old son to put his underwear back on.
I just had to laugh. How often do you step out into a beautiful morning and hear, “Why aren’t you wearing underwear?”
Then it hit me that this little boy was just enjoying the blessed freedom that summer often brings; in his case, freedom from layers upon layers of clothing (or any clothing, for that matter). And then I took a moment to revel in my own glorious freedom: freedom from a boss telling me when to come to work, when to go home, and what to do during the long, often-dragging hours in between. Freedom from an employer telling me how much I’m worth. Freedom from stifling “business casual” clothes (really, there’s nothing casual about starched shirts and high heels).
If you’re still working a full-time JOB (Just Over Broke), I don’t mean to offend you; quite the opposite. I want to show you everything that you have to look forward to when you finally make the leap to being your own boss. I hope that day is soon! And if you’re already working for yourself, take just a minute and relish the everyday freedoms you enjoy. Do your best to never take them for granted, and remember them when you’re having a horrible day dealing with the client from h-e-l-l.
Heck, write them down so you can use them as motivation. Motivation to keep your business moving forward so you can reach all of your dreams, both big and small.
Here’s to your success!
